The Barnstable Village Ghost Hunter's Tour has claimed not to be another cheesy tourist trap. This tour is suppose to be truly scary and only for the brave.
We arrived at the Old Jail a little before 8:00 PM to meet with Derek Bartlett, Founder of Cape and Islands Paranormal Research Society who was going to be our tour guide. Derek explained to us that this ghost hunting tour will be a three-hour walking experience through Barnstable Village. Our tour would take us to places including the Barnstable Court House, the Theater House, the House of 11 Ghosts, a haunted cemetery, and of course, the Old Jail, which is supposedly one of the scariest spots on the tour.
As we began our walk, Derek entertained us with tales of the haunted happenings that seem to affect every corner of the village. One of the destinations on this tour that we were really looking forward to was the House of 11 Ghosts. We thought we were going to be able to go inside and do some investigating, but the only thing that we did was sit on the stone wall outside the house and listen to our guide tell us stories about the ghosts of the house. In the description of this tour, it stated that it was an "investigation tour", but in truth, it is any but that.
From the House of 11 Ghosts, we made our way towards the haunted cemetery. Before arriving at the cemetery, Derek handed over the rest of the tour to Nancy, a member of his team. Nancy proceeded to tell us about the many paranormal happenings that occurred at the cemetery, including being touched and, seeing a large shadow figure that follows you around the cemetery. Having thus far having no paranormal activity, we all were hoping that we would capture something in the cemetery. We didn't capture an strange voice recordings except for the many people who were out and about partying and the heavy traffic. We didn't we get touched, or detect any paranormal activity.
From the cemetery, we made our way to our final destination, the Old Jail. The Old Jail is stated to be one of the scariest spots on the tour. This former prison is supposedly one of the most actively haunted places in the country. We were all looking forward to spending some time in the Old Jail hoping to capture some paranormal activity. Our guide Nancy, turned out the lights and went outside while we set up our laser grid and then spent some time doing EVP's. After about a half hour, we left having gotten nothing paranormal.
Conclusion: The Barnstable Village Ghost Hunter's Tour is historically interesting. This walking tour with historical facts (legends) of some of the landmarks is for those who like hearing about ghosts and history. If you're an experienced ghost hunter, then this is the tour for you.
We didn't experience any ghost sightings, voice recordings or any other paranormal activity. Upon looking at all the pictures we took, I capture an orb above one of the grave stones. Robin captured some strange orange lights and what looks to be a tall, dark mass that is blocking part of a grave stone.

Bliss Street Athol, MA
Summary of Claims: Three children- two little girls and a brother- perished on September 28, 1964 when a space heater exploded in the living room of their two-family home. The mother, Kathleen Spooner, 27, and the seven members of the Arthur Powell family which occupied the other half of the three-story frame structure were not hurt seriously. Five children were among those who fled the other side of the house.
The Deputy Fire Chief said the children might have been escaped had the firemen been called immediately if the mother had not tried to battle the flames herself. The Fire Chief said the mother, Kathleen Spooner noticed the oil-fed space heater smoking and went next door for aid. When she returned with Arthur Powell, she saw flames coming from the heater and tried to douse them with water. The heater exploded and Mrs. Spooner spent several minutes vainly trying to extinguish the flames that raced quickly through the house. Mr. Powell was able to carry 19 month-old Alan Spooner out before helping his family to safety.
Virginia Spooner's body was found in a third floor bedroom. She was 7 years-old. Patricia Spooner's body was discovered on the second floor. She was 2 years-old. Peter Spooner's body was found behind the living room couch. He was 4 years-old. 19 month-old Alan Spooner died the following day at Memorial Hospital.
The father, Roger Spooner, was a sailor and was reported serving aboard a submarine en route to England.
